Placement Updates

So we've been trying out this newly revisited placement arrangement where the ex brings the kids to me on Wednesday nights in addition to having placement with the kids every other weekend, vacations and holidays.

We like it. The kids say they look forward to it and other than one hiccup where the ex didn't leave work in time to bring the kids before we would have to be leaving for activities at church, it has worked splendidly. We talk more. We feel more connected. I actually know what it going on in their daily(ish) life. I still don't know everything I'd know if they were living in my house full time, but it's so much better than it was.

Of course, the ex apparently feels he's off the hook for his communication responsibility since he hasn't bothered to email (as court ordered) since the Wednesday night visits began. It's a good thing my daughter felt like she could tell me she will be giving a talk in church on Sunday else I'd be missing that. Thank goodness for frequent visit so the kids can pick up his slack.

This is definitely one of those "I told you so" moments. The experts knew what they were doing when they said weekly contact was important and it's been confirmed.

It's been a change to my schedule. The things I used to do on Wednesday I now have to funnel to other days. And the things I used to do on Tuesday have to be about making sure everything is ready for Wednesday since we have a limited amount of time between drop off and activities to get dinner taken care of (and I refuse to do fast food every week just to keep it simple), so that means even more funneling of time.

Crazy thing is, I feel blessed. And I'm not complaining. And I'm feeling very thankful.
