How Do I Love Thee...
How Do I Love Thee?
When you stop and think about love, what's the first thing that comes to your mind? Is it a visual image? Is it a sound or a smell? Is it the memory of an act? It's strange, but when I think of the various people I love, I think about very different things with each one. The wonderful smell of grandmother's face powder (I bet you thought I was going to say kitchen). The feel of my sister's arms and her strength as we hug each other. The sound of my father's baritone voice, such a strong reminder of his father as well. The caring words of a friend I've yet to see. The stolen kisses of a son who doesn't want to be caught loving his mother in public. These are the things that remind me I am loved.
But how do I show my love? Hopefully I show it in ways that mean something to the persons for whom it is intended. Do I let them follow their dreams? Do I provide them with the physical comforts they seek? Do I follow through with tangible tokens and gifts? Do my words provide security? Does my attitude welcome them to grow? Do I say the words they need to hear? I hope I do. What act means most to you when you think of love?
