The Simple Things In Life
The best things in life really are the simple ones.
We've spent a lot of time this summer working our garden. We've had some successes, some failures, learned a lot by trial and error and surprisingly enough, have some harvest already.
We were weeding the other day and the next thing I notice is boy child plucking pea pods off the vine, popping them open and eating the peas. My boy. The one who used to turn his nose at every vegetable as though we were trying to feed him toxic waste. Actually eating vegetables straight up, no salt, no butter, no sauces, no cooking... are you sure I haven't died and gone to Heaven?
He then moved onto the green beans but decided that perhaps they should be washed first. Once they were washed he thought maybe we ought to cook them too. But he ate them! And he enjoyed them! And mother couldn't be more thrilled.
We've also been having a bit of a "staycation" this week. It's hard to believe that we manage to fit everything in some days when we seem to be rushed doing so little this week (I can't imagine fitting in education and employment and still doing the things we've been doing, but really we do). The favorite activity (of the kids anyway) has been hanging out at the city pool. Momma has been burned to a crisp, more than once, but the kids are loving it - don't they look content? (And yes, they are sunscreen coated - repeatedly. Good thing they don't take after momma.)
It doesn't get much better than this. Life. Simple. Ahhhhhhhh
